The Patriots Pen Program is conducted nationwide. This VFW sponsored Youth Essay Competition gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on Democracy with the prospect of winning U.S. Savings Bonds. More than 100,000 students participated last year in this contest.
Nationally, the top 46 national winners all receive at least $500.00. The National Fist Place winner will receive $5,000.00 and an all expense paid trip to Washinton, D.C. for the winner and a parent or guardian. In Minnesota, the State First Place Winner receives $250.00, a Plaque, and a trip to the State Midwinter Conference.
The Minnesta State Patriots Pen Essay Winner, and recipient of the Department of Minnesota VFW Auxiliary Scholarship Award this year, representing the 8th District, was Brennan Muhich, an 8th Grader from Eveleth Gilbert Junior High School. Brennan has all ready vowed to compete in the Voice of Democracy Essay Competition when he goes to High School. Brennan was sponsored by Gilbert VFW Post 4456 and Auxiliary. Looks like there will be some competition coming from the Eveleth Gilbert High School next year.
Congratulations Brennan, along with your parents, the 8th District is very proud of you!
