Amara Carey, a Sophmore at the Eveleth Gilbert High School took runner up this year, representing the 8th District, in the Voice of Democracy Essay Competition at the 2019 Mid Winter Conference in Minneapolis. She competed against students from 8 other Districts vying to be the State Winner for a chance to win $2,000.00 from the Minnesota VFW and Auxiliary plus a 4 day trip to Washington D.C. to compete in the National competition. Alas, that first place at the Mid Winter got away from her but she promises that she'll be back next year with the goal in mind to bring that 1st place honor home with her to the 8th District! Amara was sponsored by Eveleth VFW Post 1172 and Auxiliary.
You're a winner with us Amara and along with your parents, the 8th District is very proud of you!
